I just read an article where a horse had been successfully cloned using oocytes from a live mare.

The research that goes into cloning is filled with controversy because some people state that the zygotes that are used in experiments are not given the chance to live.
My own personal thoughts on this is, it is necessary for the development of cloning and the eggs are fertilized specifically for the purpose of cloning research. It should be noted that the animals aren't exactly tested on. As far as I know it causes no harm to the mare or stallion used.
It is also necessary, not for horses exactly, but for humans. Cloning could mean that a person's own cells could be used to create a new heart or lung for his or her own transplants.
The cons far out weigh the pros in my own opinion.
